Roularta Printing, a star player in sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roularta Printing plays a key role in realising these goals, not least in reducing \u2013 and ultimately eliminating \u2013 their CO2 <\/sub>footprint. After all, the printing process offers multiple opportunities, directly and indirectly, to achieve the company\u2019s CO2 <\/sub>neutrality objectives by 2040. One SDG that is closely linked to CO2 <\/sub>neutrality is \u201cResponsible consumption and production\u201d. We will also take a detailed look at another\u00a0 \u201cClimate action\u201d, in a subsequent blog.<\/p>\n

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG12).<\/strong><\/p>\n

With this sustainability initiative, Roularta Printing\u2019s objective focuses on sustainable production, and the company always chooses partners who share the same vision with regards to efficient use of raw materials and reduction of waste.<\/p>\n

We have set the following concrete objectives:<\/u><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Suppliers<\/u><\/strong>: by 2025, 50% of the purchase value will be with suppliers who have signed the sustainable purchasing charter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Paper<\/strong>:<\/u> all paper intended for our own works will be PEFC certified.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Inks<\/strong>:<\/u> all inks will have the Blue Angel certificate*.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Packaging<\/strong>:<\/u> By 2026, all plastic packaging for shipping to subscribers will be replaced with paper wrap.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Emissions<\/strong>:<\/u> every year, perform 50% better than the legally imposed VLAREM II** standard with regard to total emissions compared to ink consumption.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

ISO 50001<\/strong>***<\/u>: improve energy performance annually and maintain the certificate every year.<\/p>\n

\n

* Ecolabel of the German Federal Government for environmentally friendly products<\/em><\/p>\n

** Flemish <\/em>Environmental Permits Decree for the collection of hazardous substances<\/em><\/p>\n

*** International standard for design, implementation, management and optimization of an energy management system<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The production process reviewed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201creduce, reuse and recycle\u201d these objectives translate into concrete initiatives in the production environment. For example, in addition to the introduction of the paper wrap to replace plastic foil, consumption of city water in production has also been managed more effectivelyaddressed. Thanks to the conversion of the cooling installation, part of the wastewater can be reused, which results in an annual water saving of more than 7,000 m\u00b3.<\/p>\n

In addition, we only use sustainable inks and recycled paper, and we have made large investments in energy-efficient printing presses and drying ovens. For example, we acquired three state-of-the-art drying ovens in 2023, an investment of 4.5 million euros, and we achieved a reduction of our CO2 <\/sub>emissions of no less than 14 percent and a reduction of our gas and electricity consumption of respectively 25 and 5 percent!<\/p>\n
